BIOMASS COMBUSTION AND HEAT GENERATION
Biomass for combustion usually comes from waste and residues from wood industry, forestry, and agriculture products such as nuts, corn, and grass. Their calorific value is increased by densification and compression made into what is known as pellets.
WHY IS BURNING BIOMASS GREEN ?
Biomass takes carbon out of the atmosphere while it is growing, and returns it as it is burned. This why we call combustion of Biomass as being CARBON NEUTRAL. Biomass is harvested as part of a constantly replenished crop. Replanting with the new growth taking up CO2 from the atmosphere at the same time as it is released by combustion of the previous harvest.
With the right combustion condition in relations to the air to fuel mixture , biomass
burns very clean -
This maintains a closed carbon cycle with no net increase in atmospheric CO2 levels.
